Google has removed a popular app after researchers discouh9vered it was spreading\u00a0<\/strong>malware.jnm<\/span><\/p>\n

The troubled app is CamScanner<\/a><\/strong>, a program that scans files and converts them into PDFs.<\/span><\/p>\n

Researchers at security firm Kaspersky had found a number of negative reviews on the app’s Google Play profile that complained the app had the “presence of unwanted features,”\u00a0<\/span>according to a blog post<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/a>The\u00a0<\/span>profile page<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0has been deleted from the store.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The Android version of the app that was injected with malware from an advertiser could potentially show “intrusive advertising” to CamScanner users. CamScanner’s iOS app is not affected, according to the company.<\/span><\/div>\n

Kaspersky found the module and reported it immediately, which led to the app being taken down from the store – HostNamaste<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n

Kaspersky claims the app has been downloaded more than 100 million times<\/a><\/strong>. CNN Business has not been able to verify that number.<\/span><\/div>\n
