Virtuozzo<\/span><\/strong><\/a>, a global pioneer in high-efficiency virtualization and hyperconverged software solutions, is acquiring\u00a0OnApp<\/a><\/strong><\/span>\u00a0\u2013 a well-known London-based software firm focusing on\u00a0cloud solutions\u00a0for service providers. Through acquiring OnApp, Virtuozzo expects that its existing cloud IaaS and PaaS solutions will be enhanced as well as the company\u2019s regional market reach.<\/span><\/p>\n

Cloud service providers<\/strong>\u00a0(CSPs),\u00a0managed service providers<\/strong>\u00a0(MSPs), and hosting providers focusing on delivering\u00a0IaaS<\/strong>,\u00a0PaaS<\/strong>, and\u00a0XaaS<\/strong>\u00a0solutions for their clients would benefit from the combined technology and R&D expertise of both businesses.<\/span><\/p>\n

Virtuozzo\u2019s<\/strong>\u00a0\u201ceasy-to-use\u201d\u00a0virtualization<\/a><\/span>, containerization, storage, and orchestration<\/strong>\u00a0capabilities will be combined with sophisticated features of OnApp\u2019s \u201cflexible self-service management platform\u201d in the resultant solution stack. As a result, according to\u00a0Virtuozzo<\/strong>, service providers will have access to the most user-friendly and reliable cloud infrastructure and platform solutions available today, which can support every cloud use case.<\/span><\/p>\n

Financial terms of the\u00a0OnApp<\/strong>\u00a0acquisition were not disclosed. OnApp will continue to operate as a part of Virtuozzo, with OnApp\u2019s employees merging into Virtuozzo\u2019s organizational structure, according to the agreement.\u00a0OnApp co-founder and CEO Ditlev Bredahl<\/strong>\u00a0will assist with post-acquisition integration, so business would continue as normal.<\/span><\/p>\n

CSPs, MSPs, and Hosting Providers<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

The acquisition is influenced by timing and demand. According to\u00a0Synergy Research Group<\/strong>, cloud infrastructure demand has reached\u00a0$129 billion<\/strong>\u00a0in 2020, increasing 35% year over year. Non-hyperscalers \u2013 local, regional, and multi-national service providers \u2013 would own about a third of this market.\u00a0Virtuozzo OpenVZ VPS <\/a><\/span><\/strong>technology would benefit such service providers.<\/span><\/p>\n

Parallel to this, S&P Global Market Intelligence\u2019s\u00a0451 Research<\/strong>\u00a0recently discussed a potential new opportunity for alternative\u00a0CSPs<\/strong>\u00a0in its 2021 analysis Demand and Opportunity in the Alternative Cloud Provider Market, noting that they may find a role in larger multi-cloud portfolios and that \u2018alternative\u2019 can mean \u2018in addition to\u2019 rather than \u2018instead of.\u2019 These studies would show that alternative\u00a0CSPs<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0MSPs<\/strong>\u00a0are well positioned to become consumers\u2019 preferred partners as they migrate to contemporary cloud services.<\/span><\/p>\n
